Shaunak and his Guru Sri Suta Goswami

In the ancient times, disciples would seek their guru with sheer humility, love, eagerness and ‘jigyasa’ or curiosity to attain spiritual knowledge. Unlike the times of the day where knowledge is available at the click of a button, spiritual knowledge or even worldly knowledge was like a treasure trove back then. Understanding its importance for one’s growth in both material as well as spiritual sphere, the disciple would seek the Guru with reverence. Well, it was the pre-requisite for the Guru to impart the knowledge or information which Shaunak possessed. Such immense knowledge could not be bought by money or blackmail. It was all about one’s own merit and the grace of the Guru.

One day, Shaunak went to his Guru Suta Goswami knowing very well that the person who is sitting in front of him had the power to dissipate his darkness of ignorance. With utmost humility and reverence for His guru, he expressed his desire to know something due to which his devotion, detachment and knowledge would increase. He bowed his head to his Guru and Suta Goswami ji on listening to his noble wish, sudenly slipped into a meditative state.
