(Resolution 2023)
From what I can remember is that my love affair with laziness started quite smoothly and subtly after the boards of standard 10th. I was an exercise enthusiast at that time, a student who would study hard to fetch marks, eat healthy so that my body and mind stays cool but with sorry turn of choices and events, I now identify myself as a hard-core member of the Lazy Club. Well, if you don’t know it already, let me tell you that we have a vast booming community whose sole aim is to make each individual an absolute couch potato.
I remember back in my healthy days, I would not dread climbing a flight of stairs to fetch something, I did not cuss anyone ringing the doorbell or wouldn’t get annoyed when the electric switch would be a little farther from my reach. I was literally a ‘person on the move’. With a fixed exercise routine and a flame to fetch decent scores in exams, I did not fuss much about food or study some difficult concepts of my scholastic curriculum and my concentration was way better than it is now. Back then, I would be ready by 6:45 am with all bathing and breakfast done to board the school-van! I now reflect on myself and it really is shocking to realize what I have become due to my laziness. Adulthood brings freedom and with that comes responsibilities and strangely, I made a choice to be a lazy member of the Lazy Club.
I read something very true on the internet- Laziness erodes a person of his enthusiasm and energy. As a result, the person loses all opportunities and finally becomes dejected and frustrated.
Well, laziness is costly indeed. It costs me my physical and mental health, my career, motivation, confidence, social relations and what not! When I see poor people pulling a cart to make a living, I feel ashamed. And here I have the best Nature can give me for a comfortable life, yet I am so lazy! The truth is, nobody ever got anything good from laziness- materially or even spiritually. Had Gautam Buddha been lazy, he wouldn’t have achieved enlightenment. If Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam was lazy, he wouldn’t have become the ‘Missile Man of India’.
The time is now. Before things mess up any further, let me take a vow of the year 2023- KICK OUT LAZINESS. Three words, that’s it.
This week’s os.me editorial speaks about working on one new micro-goal every month for this year, but what I have chosen and have been living on for years won’t go away within 30 days of a month. So, this is my one and only aim for 2023. In the coming posts, I’ll share how I plan to work on my laziness.
P.S. — On a lighter note, these memes give a snippet of how my life has become on being a member of the Lazy Club.
By the way, are you a member of the Lazy Club too?
